OUR GRATEFUL THANKS TO ALL THE PEOPLE in  Germany -Italy -Poland -Israel -Russia -Finland -Netherlands - USA WHO SENT US PHOTOGRAPHS / IMAGES DEPICTING THIS WONDERFUL BREED WITH CHILDREN - WITH LOVE TO YOU ALL.

We hope all  RBT fans will recognise many of the pictures.

TO COMPLIMENT OUR DAYS AT CRUFTS THE RBT BOOTH **WON 2ND BEST OVERALL

Thursday morning up at 4pm and a little bleary eyed. We had been preparing for some weeks prior to the big day and must admit this was a first time for Tom and I to man a booth at Crufts. Many friends abroad had sent posters and e-mailed pictures to us for the display. We wanted to depict the breed with children. Over the past eight years when visiting friends and breeders we had seen with our own eyes what a truly remarkable breed this Blackie is.

The journey to Birmingham, there were no traffic problems. A safe journey of one and a half hours.

Tom and I eagerly began placing all the pictures on the left and the right walls of the booth. It was perfect and all our planning worked out well. The finishing touches of red stars which Tom and I hung from the ceiling of the booth seemed to give a warmth to the area. We also placed a Grooming chart on the shelf provided and brochures=history, grooming etc. Mrs Violet Slade had placed her pictures/stars on the back wall. The booth looked great.

The day went very well, many people interested in the breed had come to Crufts especially to see the R.B.T.

‘Pippo’, our 3 year old dog was a true ambassador for the breed. he greeted everyone who wanted to meet and stroke him.

Friday was the day for Mrs Violet Slade, she also enjoyed the interaction from all the visitors.. She had brought along two of her bitches. Cleyra another of her bitches, she told me was at home in season.

Saturday Mrs Jean McDonald-Ulliotts was manning the booth with her bitch ‘Tessy’, but as she was exhibiting that morning her friend Linda Newton and Mrs Slade were there helping. Jean said the people were so very interested in the breed she could not believe how successful everything had been.

Sunday was a mixed day, all of us there at some time or another. Tom and I arrived to find out the RBT booth had just won second place.

CRUFTS ‘RBT BREEDS BOOTH’’  Won 2nd BEST. wpe7.jpg (3506 bytes)

We all were so pleased. It had all been such a happy event throughout the four days. The rosette and a bottle of champagne had been awarded to the RBT booth

I would like to mention the people also involved over the four days. John & Sandra Stables, who kept popping in regularly to help and Linda Newton who was such a good help on the Saturday & Sunday.

We all look forward to being invited next year and I am sure there will be many more RBT owners offering help to man the booth—after all it is a special event.,encouraging good dog ownership and many members are eager to be part of the team.

To conclude, We all felt great happiness knowing all our work had been appreciated and acknowledged by the officials at Crufts. Many thanks for the lovely rosette, not forgetting for one moment — all those smashing people who visited the Russian Black Terrier booth

A big thank you to everyone from the proposed

National Russian Black Terrier Club for making it such a memorable four days.

1st International Day

Saturday  25th September 1999  The Clubs first Social Event   at Wentworth Castle Barnsley.

23 Russian Black Terriers attended.

We had 61 bookings with 59 people and 23 RBT's (adults and puppies) attending on the day. The President of the Club, Mr. Tom Huxley gave his opening remarks welcoming everyone; he introduced our overseas guests from Warsaw, Ewa and Patrycja Spotan (Willa Taira RBT's) who were there to answer questions concerned with grooming and breeding RBT's with Mauro Perna (Italy) a professional handler, who was there to answer questions concerned with exhibiting an R.B.T. Tom continued by giving a brief introduction to the events catalogued for the day and hoped everyone would enjoy this first social interaction, as most of the U.K. members were in attendance , and so, be able to put a name to the face?

The beautiful well tended lawns of the Castle stretched over the pleasant hillsides in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. It was here where twenty-three (23) RBT's with owners of mature dogs and puppies gathered together for group photographs, professionally undertaken by, Steve Halifax. Many people were chatting to our overseas guests Ewa and Patrycja Spotan, Poland and Mauro Perna, Italy, inquiring their opinion of their dog's presentation and grooming.?

wpe8.jpg (10940 bytes)the youngest pups in attendance were Robroyd ''Gems''.. Patrycja and 'Gem',....Ewa and Janet trying to keep 'Zolo', still !

Everyone gathered around 1-15pm to sit and chat in the dining room where the bar was open! The 3 course lunch was served at 2 p.m. After the meal, thanks was given to everyone for attending, stating the breed can only go from strength to strength if this today is the nucleus of fanciers, and the beginning here in the U.K. of this truly remarkable breed. The club has since received many letters of congratulations of the day, and so, we would like to thank all the people who attended.

The Officers and the Committee send you our appreciation from the proposed, 'Russian Black Terrier Club', for generating such a memorable day.

Below a letter from our invited guests taken from RBT Club Newsletter Vol 2 -December 1999.

Our First Visit to the UK wpeA.jpg (2278 bytes)        Ewa   and photo of   Patrycja

Finally,we decided to visit our English friends Tom & Janet Huxley (kennel "Robroyd").We came for 10 days, which went very quickly for us. During our stay we met many BRTs fans and we saw many English BRTs.We would like to share with you our impressions. As I said, we saw many English dogs and the most of them were of good Russian type. That is: strong and wide. It's a good start, because if the type is good, you can always improve other things. The main problem of English breeders now is grooming. They have to learn also, how to take care of the coat especially the long one. We shared with our experience and knowledge. We hope, we helped them all. Another problem is the small genepool. There is not many different blood lines and blackies in England and can become very quickly one big family.

English breeders have to learn, that BRT is a working breed.T he dog needs to have muscles, that's why it should run, swim and pull a wire(of course at the correct age). In England people don't work with their dogs much and the topline is some times not as strong as it could be. We think, they'll learn this breed in England very fast, because they have a very good attitude. People want to learn and listen to others, who are a little more experienced. There is not many materials devoted to BRTs in England, that's why it is so important for breeders to collect things from English breeders have to learn, that BRT is a working breed. The dog needs to have muscles, that's why it should run, swim and pull a wire(of course at the correct age). There is not many materials devoted to BRTs in England, that's why it is so important for breeders to collect things from abroad (especially from Russia). We were surprised, how many materials some people have from Italy and Russia.

On the 25th September we were at The International BRT Day organized by the English RBT Club. It was a quite big meeting, because there was about 60 guests and about 20 blackies. The organisation was great. The committee thought of everything: beautiful localisation (Castle), delicious meal and great fun. There were signs on the roads for guests, who didn't know the way to castle. At the meeting there was a professional photographer, so there was a possibility to make a photo of the dog with the amazing views in the background. The meeting was opened by the President of the club-Tom Huxley. We were there to answer questions concerned with the grooming and breeding BRTs and a professional handler from Italy Mauro Perna was there to answer all the question concerned with showing a BRT. There was a big interest in the grooming of BRT’s and we tried to answer the best we could.

During the meeting the committee gathered money for club's fund. The atmosphere was really great and we had lots of fun. Especial, that Peter Dugdill was definitely a showman, who knew how to make people laugh.
We would like to thank once again our dear friends Tom & Jan Huxley for the beautiful time, which we spent together and organising The International Day for all BRT fans.

See you next year, this time in Poland - Ewa & Patrycja Spotan- Willa Taira-BRT’

Earls Court   Discover Dogs Booth   6th  - 7th November 1999

We had an early 3.am rise and a 3 1/2 hour journey to Earls Court. We were all looking forward to our 2 day, first visit to Discover Dogs at Earls Court.

We all arrived safely after seeing most of the sights in London; we seemed to have taken the wrong turning!

The booth was situated ideally on a corner for all to see and admire. Violet Slade decorated one wall with a well presented history of the R.B.T’s, while Janet Huxley (club secretary) colourfully presented the other wall with collected photo’s of their own and others kindly donated from other countries i.e. U.K. Russia, Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Israel. Janet had been asking committee and club members over the past months if they had any photographs which we could use to display on the booth, especially from our well attended and successful International Day held in September. Janet put the finishing touches to the booth with her own designed hanging R.B.T’s mobiles and red stars.

2 young Russian visitors with John Stables & Peter Dugdill

10. am arrived the doors opened and visitors were eagerly waiting to come in. We dressed in our ( proposed ) “Russian Black Terrier Club”, T-shirts for all to see.

wpe17.jpg (13067 bytes)

We certainly made an impression!, as did our R.B.T’s, Lisander Ukraine at Tiggis =‘KiKi’, Hibeck Dominico, =’’Mimmo’’, Billy, Cleyra, Tiggis Prince Charming = ’Marco’, and Tiggis Barbie Girl =’Anastasia’. who might I add these dogs greeted visitors of all ages throughout the day.

Saturday (a diplomatic draw of names took place) from the three named kennels invited to attend by the Kennel Club.

It was Robroyd-Tom Huxley’s name who was drawn from the ‘’Hat’ by a visitor at the booth.

Tom choose to handle Lisander Ukraine at Tiggis to represent the breed from the many RBT’s attending. The Working Group Parade took place at 1.40 p.m. in the main ring.

wpe18.jpg (6321 bytes)

Most members were there to see Tom parade Lisander Ukraine at Tiggis, (Ki-Ki’’, to her friends). When the time came for introduction Tom walked her into the ring and it was Nick (the compere) who addressed her as a “New Working Breed to the U.K.” The Russian Black Terrier - a cross between a Schnauzer and an Airedale!

The first day had been a great success as the booth had been packed with visitors all day and the R.B.T’s had met new friends, from many countries throughout the world.

A party of eleven members stayed overnight on the Saturday in a hotel which had been booked well in advance. On the Saturday evening we relaxed and our party of eleven enjoyed a great meal at San Miguels Restaurant overlooking the Thames. We enjoyed good company, excellent food, drinks, and the bonus being it was Guy Fawks celebrations, we also enjoyed the free firework display!

wpe19.jpg (6850 bytes) a Young visitor with 'KiKi'.  (Lisander Ukraina at Tiggis)

Sunday carried on from Saturday’s great day, with what seemed like more people visiting the booth. By 4.p.m. sixty (60) membership forms and six hundred (600) brochures had been handed out from the booth. People were so eager to see the R.B.T’s in all their glory and to have as much information as possible regarding the breed. The Russian Radio had visited the booth asking questions regarding the breed for all the Russian people to hear the first hand news. Photographs were taken by David Dolton amongst the many visiting over the two days.

I would like to take this opportunity to mention all the people who were present at Earls Court over the weekend, Tom and Janet Huxley, John and Mary Phillips, Jean McDonald-Ulliott, John and Sandra Stables, Bob and Violet Slade, Kim, Tricia, Kevin, Graham and Judith and of course not forgetting my husband Peter. (the life and soul of any event).

wpe1A.jpg (5122 bytes)I am greatly looking forward to Crufts 2000 where the R.B.T’s will be out again in full force on all four days.
