THE RUSSIAN BLACK TERRIER CLUB - CODE OF ETHICS.

This is the clubs code of ethics, it is more than a code, it is a solemn oath by you of …

Love,…Commitment,…Decency…. and good common sense.

Which when you become a Member,  you commit yourself and your conscience, not only to your R.B.T. but also to the betterment of our beloved breed   the Russian Black Terrier, so lovingly known in its homeland as THE BLACK PEARL.

The Code, I/We pledge,

1. That I will at all times, act not only in the best interest of the breed, but also to the best interest of my own dogs, with the love, well being and commitment they deserve.

2.  I further agree that I will fully explain to the best of my ability, to all prospective Russian Black Terrier purchasers, not only the many advantages, but the disadvantages of owning and the bringing up of the breed, and that I will not condone, let alone participate in mixed breeding or the breeding of R.B.T’s that are not K.C. registered.

3. I agree and acknowledge that I am, and will be responsible for the welfare of my dogs and any puppies that I help to bring into this world, and that before, and in the planning of a litter, I give equal consideration to type, temperament, soundness and health. I acknowledge and agree whole heartily, that my breeding should be for the improvement of the breed. If coloured puppies (not Black) are born they be registered; Colour- non-standard and KC ‘Endorsed’ Not for Breeding’.  Hip & Elbow scoring and Eye testing is a breeders freedom of choice, but should be given consideration.

4. I also agree and promise to do all in my power to discourage breeding from unsound, and inferior stock, and pledge to do my utmost to ensure that any puppies sold by me, go to a loving caring home, also pledge that if circumstances of life (Heaven forbid) force me to part with my dog (s) that I will do everything in my power to see that they are placed in a good and loving home, but I will inform the breeder first (if applicable).

5.  I agree to honour all stud services and breeding agreements that I make and acknowledge the R.B.T. Clubs advice that wherever possible written agreements are to be preferred.

6. We recommend the R.B.T. is a large breed and should not be mated before the age of 2 years and only then depending on that bitch's physical and mental health.

7.  I also support and agree to abide to both the K.C and the R.B.T Clubs recommendation, that no bitch should whelp on two successive seasons and never without regard to the well being and general health of this bitch and I agree and confirm my commitment not to whelp from any R.T.B. bitch after the age of 7 and that a bitch produces no more than 4 litters.

8.  I fully recognise and agree not to breed a litter, if I do not have the time and facilities to devote to the proper care and attention to the rearing of the litter and the after care of the mother.  If a puppy or adult sold by the breeder requires re-homing at any time  it is the responsibility of the breeder to take full charge of  the RBT they bred.
I further agree not to allow or provide stud service from any of my dogs, unless I am satisfied that the owner of the bitch making the enquires has such time and facilities.

9. I fully realise, agree and accept my responsibilities to these puppies, and confirm that I will not let any puppy go to its new owner before that puppy is eight weeks old and I will not sell a dog to a pet shop or a dog dealer or be sold at auction, or to be used or given as a prize, either directly or indirectly and further agree that each puppy be accompanied by a diet sheet, grooming and care routine, its pedigree and veterinary details.  
   
10.  I agree to the RBT Clubs guideline that any of my R.B.T. puppies/adults exported are done so under the Ministry of Agriculture rules regarding Age, Health regulations of the country of import, and if an age is not specified, not to export under the age of 16 weeks (4 months) and I also agree and support that I will not sell a puppy/adult, to any country which are not protected by anti cruelty laws. (If in any doubt, contact the K.C or DEFRA).

11. I readily agree that if I should become aware of any mistreatment of an R.B.T. dog/bitch, I will report this in writing to the secretary of the R.B.T Club for discussion by the committee.

12.  I also agree above all to maintain a good standard of physical and mental well being of my dogs and to care for them properly with love and affection, obtaining the very best professional veterinary care and advice where ever necessary.
